Praline French Toast Casserole

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups half & half
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup light brown sugar (packed)
10 - 12 slices soft bread
8 eggs
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup light brown sugar (packed)
2/3 cup maple syrup
2 cups chopped pecans

Instructions

Butter a 13 by 9 inch casserole dish. Mix the eggs, half & half, maple syrup and sugar in a large bowl. Place the bread slices in the buttered casserole dish and cover with the egg mixture. Let it soak overnight in the refrigerator. Make the topping by melting the butter in a sauce pan. Add the sugar and maple syrup and cook for 1 - 2 minutes. Stir in pecans. Pour over the bread and bake for 45 - 55 minutes. Allow to sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

To reduce fat and calories, substitute milk for the half & half. Recipe also works well if you allow the bread to soak up the egg mixture for 5 - 6 hours. Make the topping, pour it on and let the whole thing soak overnight and cook the next morning.
